It's plumbing like this that launched a thousand careers
…actually, it’s someone you already know. After much discussion among my team of august construction professionals and influencers, I came back to an oldie but a goodie: Ivan Olson and his wacked-out plumbing is a concept and an image that cannot be denied. So he is the winner of the final Bosch Power Box in the Pro, Not so Pro challenge. I thank all of our participants and readers for taking part in a spirited competition over the past month. Keep checking back with bethepro.com to learn more about the latest trends in the construction trades. And feel free to comment and make a contribution.

Cleanliness wins new customers, and my admiration
The third Bosch Power Box award for the Pro/Not so Pro Challenge is Matthew Collson of upstate New York. It’s obvious from his work on this customer’s heating system that he takes pride in his work and maintains neatness has part of his workplace creed. This installation evidences both commitment to the craft and creativity. And that’s a success formula for no matter what you’re doing. Matthew’s example of professionalism is a prime example of why we’re doing this challenge.
I was also impressed with Cade Baker’s Oregon Ducks gate. That’s total creativity in action – I’ve got a few items in my bag of accessories that might help on your next big effort.
And then there’s George Strasbaugh and his work in the locker room of the new Pittsburgh Penguins arena.

A job worth doing is worth doing right. I’ve seen some great work by pros and then some things that are not so pro. Take this photo for instance. Chicago winters are cold, but there are better and more attractive ways to keep warm. This is common in commercial and residential construction. Remodelers know that virtually every homeowner is looking to save a few bucks on home repairs and that might mean holding off on building a three-season room for more immediate repairs like a leaking roof, a falling chimney or interior wall damage. Some people might think they can get by with some home-grown solution for a job that’s critical, like duct tape on electrical repairs or a single 2”x4” holding up a structural beam.
