One of my earliest projects was built-in entertainment center.
It turned out beautifully, and everyone that had a hand in building it signed one of the last boards to be installed (hidden). I’m thinking about ordering one of these though: It’s a branding iron that is heated by a bic lighter and can be customized to any design (your company’s logo?). I was tipped off about this by Chris Schwarz’s blog here. The image is from ShapeWays, the manufacturer.

I quit signing my work years ago, after I realized that most people don’t really give a shit if you’ve built something beautiful. All that matters is “How much did that cost?” As soon as they hear what you would charge to build them something like it, they put their hand on their wallet and back away, then go looking for a low bidder jamoak on Craigslist, who they can forever bitch about, because “He did a lousy job.”
No, I don’t sign sign my work.
Many clients know the price of everything, and the value of nothing. It’s a rare and special day when I’m actually glad I became a carpenter twenty five years ago. Most days I wish had gotten into selling insurance, or some other fatass sitdown job instead.
